Nepenthes at the Orchid Show (POE in San Francisco)

I was fleeing the building due to the deafening drumming music.

Nepenthes at the Orchid Show (POE in San Francisco)

I finally made it there today (Sunday), after originally planning on Friday. Both "jurow" and Drew had beautiful plants for sale and in the displays, and both locations were very popular with visitors. I had to leave when some loud drumming became unbearable. Here's "jurow's" display: I...

Nepenthes at the Orchid Show (POE in San Francisco)

I just wanted to resurrect this thread to mention that this show is happening again on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Fort Mason in San Francisco. It's primarily an Orchid show, but it looks like carnivorous plants will again be well represented, judging by the list of vendors. SFOS*Pacific...

    Aristolochia thread

I forgot to post this here when it opened a couple days ago. The flower is 6 to 6 1/2 inches, or on the small side for this clone.

    SHOW US YOUR ORCHIDS/FLOWERS!

Epipactis helleborine. I understand this is a non-native plant, and considered a weed. Still, it was a pleasant surprise for me to see it, growing in my fence. Pictures are terrible but you can get an idea of what it looks like. I figured I'd leave the spider webs for the photos.

    Aristolochia thread

That's funny, I always describe it as exactly like Lemon Pledge. Regardless, is probably the same artificial lemon scent. It is a pleasant scent coming from the flower. Not all A. giganteas have the scent, one reason I'm really happy with this clone. I do have seedlings of A. gigantea...

    Aristolochia thread

Here's the A. gigantea bud this morning. Close to 6 inches, so I'm hoping for a big flower.

    Aristolochia thread

I'm hoping A. chilensis will start making seeds. Unfortunately the first flower fell off without, but there are 3 more buds. I've asked around and people seem to think it's self fertile. Whether it's self-pollinating is a different story, as Aristolochias typically have receptive stigmas...

    Aristolochia thread

Here's another one, to bloom soon. The flowers can get as big as 10 inches, but I suspect this one will be smaller. Aristolochia gigantea. I originally bought the plant at Kartuz, gave it up in a move, but got back a rooted cutting from Grassy Knoll Exotics.

    Yellow shroom-age

This is a repeated post from another thread: This one first came up in a pot with a young Passiflora cutting. I've since seen it elsewhere inside, but not for a while. I think it's Leucocoprinus birnbaumii. The Passiflora is Passiflora ornithoura. When I started it, I labeled the container...

I know that zone9 Tropicals has a great reputation among those of us who grow vines. I've never been there (or ordered) though. http://www.zone9tropicals.com
