    U. heterosepala, graminifolia, or smithiana?

I've been growing this plant for 2 years and this is the first time I've gotten flowers out of it. It tried once before but I lost the flower stalks when cleaning up a pest infestation and ended up just throwing out the pot entirely. I think it likes living in the water tray much more than in...

    Roridula dentata germination

I'm looking for advice about germinating Roridula dentata seeds. I've read through Cultivation and describtion of Roridula gorgonias and Roridula dentata and what little other information I've been able to find and would like to hear other growers' experiences as well. Any information would be...

Suggestions for tall grow area lighting?

My mother is having her kitchen remodeled and decided to put in a shelf between the sink and window to grow herbs on. Being as the window is completely shaded, she needs a grow light. The shelf is approximately 1' x 4', but the sticking point is that the light will be mounted 3.5' above the...

    UV Fluorescence in CPs

I thought I'd start a thread for pictures and discussion of UV fluorescence in CPs. I get the impression that it's not a very well-known phenomenon, and I'd like to change that! I'll start with a fantastic picture of N. "Triffid" I took last night: And one of my random hybrid from April...

    Butterfly/Moth ID

And to make it hard...they hatched today! Pictures taken in the area of Portland, Oregon. The eggs were found on the leaves and stem of a goji berry plant (Lycium barbarum) and hatched 5 days after discovery.

    Poi Dog Nepenthes

This was my first Nepenthes that I bought to see how well I could grow one. As I discovered, like most CPs, the difficulty of growing them is exaggerated and I have acquired several others since but have never positively identified this one. So have at it, Nepenthes experts! Pitchers are...

    Nepenthes ID

Here are a few pictures of the result of a Nepenthes cutting I rooted last year. Unfortunately in the process of receiving it and splitting the cutting with another local grower, the tag was lost. The cutting was obtained from Whimgrinder. I'm very sure that it is a plant with a latin name -...

    Roridula TDS tolerance

I haven't been able to find any information on this. I'm curious what the general TDS tolerance of Roridula is, and if anyone has ever done experiments with soil fertilization with the genus. They certainly seem to grow better for some people than others, and I'm wondering if it comes down to...

    When to unpot tubers?

How long into dormancy should I wait before unpotting tuberous Drosera tubers? I've read various numbers between 1-3 months. I received a couple plants last month and one started going dormant immediately (D. zigzagia, I hope it didn't just die on me.) I let the pot dry out slowly since then...

    Spider ID

I've never seen one of these before. It looks like some sort of wolf spider to me and seems to be taking residence in a rotted out hollow of a deck railing. I would estimate the length of the spider (including legspan) at about 2cm though I didn't get a real close look when it was out of its hole.

    Pitcher opened on cutting

I'm curious how common this is. I know a lot of people cut the leaves in half when rooting cuttings and won't get the chance but I thought I'd check anyway. When I received this cutting 2 months ago, the pitcher shown was about 1/3 the size. To my surprise it kept growing rather than dying...

    Burrowing pest?

I made an odd discovery this morning: It seems something burrowed into this pot through one of the drain holes I drilled. Inspecting the others it looks like the creature may have exited through another one. Has anyone experienced this before or have any idea what might have done this?

    Nimbulan's picture thread

I suppose it's about time so I'll start with some recent pictures. Quite a few actually. Plants waking up outdoors. Some native Oregon sphagnum I'm growing with the outdoor plants, covered with netting to discourage those pesky birds. My crazy S. "Daina's Delight" growing more than 100...

    The flowers are coming

I thought I'd post a few pictures of some of my developing flower buds. I was excited when I saw the first flower bud appear a few weeks ago, but now there are two! I didn't think the plant was large enough even for one. I just discovered this today. It's the first time I've gotten flowers...

    U. calycifida monster

So I decided to move my U. calycifida 'Asenath Waite' since it has been unhappy with the higher light levels since replacing the bulbs in my T5 fixture. I knew it had grown out into the water tray but I had no idea how much. I had to lift up 3 other pots to pull out this thick mat of bladders.

    Nepenthes disease?

This popped up rather suddenly on one of my Nepenthes. It doesn't look like rust to me, but could it be some other sort of infection? There's a pitcher several leaves above this that finished growing a week or two ago but never opened, and now I'm seeing the same brown pattern on that leaf as...

    Spring is here...

...a bit early if you ask me. I suppose that's what happens when you have a string of 60 degree days at the beginning of February. This is the first flower bud of the year on a Sarracenia flava var. rubricorpora, near Sumatra, Liberty Co, FL clone H. There is also a bud visible on my...

Questions about wading pools as water trays

I've heard that some people will use wading pools as plant trays for larger collections. I'm getting to the point where I'd like to consolidate my plants into one, but I have a couple questions. What's the best way to control the water level when it rains a lot? Even short pools are taller...

    Spectacular T5 bulb failure

Anyone ever seen anything like it? Yes, there is a hole in the bulb. The other bulb in the fixture failed as well, but not quite this badly.
