Thanks! I'll cut the main vine, then, and focus on that basal.

    Basal vs main plant growth

It's been a long time since I've posted here, but I'm scratching my head over this one with no idea what's going on. I have a nice N. chaniana x veitchii that produced a basal shoot several months ago. Until then, the plant was growing vigorously and getting quite large (I'd say 12" across...

Thanks, Mark! I can't take credit for the flowers... I got this one in spike at an orchid show a few weeks ago. Though I guess I should be proud that it hasn't blasted any buds!

    humidifer water

I used to use distilled water for everything but I now use tap water, which here (southern CT) is low in dissolved solids, for all but my most sensitive plants. I also use tap water in my humidifier, with no ill effects. Unless the mist from the humidifier is wetting your plants and leaving...

    Most Energy Efficient Light

Yeah, I don't know what the lumen output is but my totally non-scientific measurement is plant color and vigor. Some unhappy Neps that weren't getting the best light took off when I added the LEDs. Whatever brand you choose, the cost of running LEDs shouldn't break the bank.

Mounted, hanging near the lights/window, with a lot of Spanish moss hanging around the roots. I give it a good soak 2-3 times a week with plenty of misting in between. Humidity varies from 20% on the driest winter days to 70% in the summer but usually hangs out around 50%. Temps range from...

    Moving Outside

Nice looking plants! And good call on the mesh... I lost a number of plants to squirrels last year.

    Lecanopteris mirabilis as a houseplant

It can be done! This plant summers outdoors and during the cooler months sits on top of the bar in my living room. (The bottles of scotch that once sat there have been replaced by plants... priorities). It slows down a bit in the winter but overall I'd say it's one tough plant.

Den. christyanum. The flowers have a sweet smell, reminds me of hand lotion NOID Phal, rescued from the discount rack at Lowe's a few years ago. Angraecum didieri. The tips of the sepals and petals are brown, probably due to a few bouts of low humidity while the flower was developing. But...
