    ICPS 2012 Roll Call

Thanks Jeff - Those B-52s were just magnificent! I still don't have all of my plants back in place. I think I'm going to split up that big Heli - the one that was in the display and jammed tight with pitchers in the pot that also had the flowers. I'll split up some of those Hummer's Giants too.

    ICPS 2012 Roll Call

Yeah, too bad there wasn't a mall or something next door that the non-cp loving wives, friends, and relatives could have gone to. That's always frustrating. On Sunday I'd donated some things from my table to the silent auction including a VERY nice Hummer's giant. John (the NECPS president)...

    ICPS 2012 Roll Call

WooHoo!! Hi everyone. Sorry I've been off these boards for a while. We had twin boys (villosa & hamata... OK, actually Benjamin & Zachary) back in October and there's been little time for much else! Quite the rascals. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to go until the last minute... but we...

    Happy Birthday JMatt!

Hey Jeff - Happy Belated Birthday!!!! Zach & Ben missed it by just a few days (10/23) if you know what I mean. VERY BUSY here. Exhausted, we came home Thursday night & I rescued the two outdoor Cephs and tried to throw as many tropicals as I could in the garage for the time being before the...

My sarrs look like crap this year

Every once in a while mine look very sickly and they just can't seem to get going. For me, it's often from red wigglers and night crawlers that creep in to the pots during the winter dormancy and wreck the soil. I flush with a solution of dishwashing detergent and they come wriggling out of...

    NECPS Show this weekend!

Kahnli - You're kidding, right? This is the first time since the inception of the NECPS I'll miss the show, but I am sending some VERY nice things up with Schloaty for the NECPS Sales Table and for the "NECPS members only" back room silent auction including: S. flava coppertop (3) S...

    Tie Dye!

I picked up one of these at the Podunk Bluegrass Festival: http://www.etsy.com/listing/22345210/adult-large-blues-banjo-tie-dye-tee If you could a CP that would be really sweet. Back when I was in high school we were into tye dye. I remember we'd roll up a shirt and secure it with rubber...

    its been a bad winter.........

We've had to dig the trenchlike pathways a second time so the dogs would do do their business. When I was clearing the end of the driveway again on Saturday, our psycho neighbor suddenly appeared in my face with a quirky face and sez, "STOP THROWING YOUR SNOW ON MY SIDE!!" (which we...

ASPCA Wallpaper - Our Dog Gypsy!

We just found out yesterday that our dog Gypsy was included as one of the choices for computer wallpaper offered by the ASCPA. She's in the second row, to the right of the horse. http://www.aspca.org/about-us/free-aspca-stuff/free-wallpaper.aspx (not the wallpaper pic):

The Saga of the Satan Mold

Hi Raven - Sometimes I'll spray with a Neem Oil solution, then water the plant with it too. You may want to think about adding Trichoderma which may compete against the evil mold. Some folks in the NECPS have used Cinnamon which is a natural fungicide.

    My Baby Cephalotus follicularis

Hi Dionae - Good thing to keep the moss trimmed. I've lost a few that got suffocated once when I got really busy. Once the tiny pitchers are large enough I've found that feeding with Betta Fish pellets really help young Cephalotus follicularis get going. I used to buy something called...

    Cephalotus follicularis From Seed

I got around 20 seeds from a Hummer's Giant, did the stratification thing. 7 of them sprouted and two survived. They are very tiny right now pitchers are maybe 1/16th of an inch. OK here's something lucky that happened this year. I had a small cobra lily that croaked earlier this past spring...

    my newish puppy

Fantastic looking dog Devon. My wife has been reading a great book called, "The Dog Listener." Here's our new dog, Nubie, a 3-1/2 year old Pharaoh Hound we got in October. He was a rescue we got through Petfinder and we did a road trip to upstate NY to go pick him up: The last picture...

Art is Fun (Especially with N. villosa)

Here's another helpful trick one of my illustration teachers way back when taught me. Get some toys or make from clay/sculpey little rough models of your subjects and paint them white. ie: three trucks and some train track for the coal mine??? Try different lighting. That way you can a much...

Art is Fun (Especially with N. villosa)

Hi Raven - Nice Job!! If I might offer some advice to help you... As a professional biomedical illustrator we learned over and over that you can get so hung up on the details (like say, painting snake scales) that one tends to lose form. Always try to think form before detail. Look at...
