Yes...mine also went nuts with the basal shoots.....near as I can tell the plant just did it because it wanted to....the only thing I kow is totasly sun related is picther formation......my plant needs at least 2-3 hours of bright light before it wll even consider putting one out....
and make sure you sand is clean...otherwise you wind up killing your plant.....always test the sand too...just because its in a store does not mean it is devoid minerals........
since I got my "green dragon" I put it in full natural light(it grows 1 inch from a window) and now it looks mostly like a red dragon.....there are hints of green here and there, but many of the newest growth are solid red..... ....quite cool
