I looked again this morning and could not see any pollen with a magnifying glass. I know it is there because i get lots of seed.
I have grown my graminifolia for about three years and they seem to be very simple and always look good. I grow them in a terrarium with D. regia. I use T5 lights and...
I have never pollinated any of my D. graminifolia and have always had lots of viable seed from them, I did check the flowers and i could not find any thing resembling pollin but i didnt have a magnifying glass.
I have also had the same experience with leaf cuttings, even when i tried rooting...
I do not have as high of humidity as you probably have but i have relatively similar temps. I use a ceramic heater to heat my green house, i use a temp setting of 50 degrees and only use it at night. In the summer i bought a used large swamp cooler for $50.00 and it works good, on days that are...
This plant has proved to be hard to grow. I have good growth, flowers and lots of pups, but as soon as the plants went dormant i lost them all. Luckily i had 10 pups to start over with. It seems to be very picky about moisture in the soil during dormancy. I grow mine as Pyro grows his.
I found...
Those are all nice looking plants, Does your cyclosecta spend alot of the year in a winter rosette? I have had my cyclosecta for 3 years and it has never produced a winter rosette yet. The debbertiana is awesome looking, i have not had the pleasure of growing one yet, but after looking at yours...
Jim, the chestnut looking things look like hydroton to me, that is the clay balls i have talked about using in my Ping media.
Kath, Your plant looks healthy, it should do fine in your window. When it starts to form its carnivorous winter rosette it will be up to 1/3 larger than its current size...
One word, MUD. I have gibba blooming in the bottom of my Pinguicula Tank, in my experience it is most likely to bloom if it is sitting in mud or suspended in algae, I put peat in a shallow bowl and mix in enough water to make it slightly liquidy, put the gibba on top of the mix and give it good...
If you put a layer of sand your pings will be more likely to fall out of the pot. Mexican pings have very shallow roots. For some Mexican Pings i use peat/sand/vermiculite but i have recently started experimenting with other medias and have had good results. A couple of the medias i have used...
There is no such thing as mistakes when it comes to science, they are called learning experiences and conclusions. I have really been trying to pin down which Pings Like which media and it seems that every Ping has an exception. I was asking a friend who just got back from a few P. heterophylla...
Slurm: If i lived in the bay area i would have nepenthes in the bog:-D I actually live north of the bay area in a much hotter, much less humid valley. I built the bog with deeper and shallower locations to accomodate a wider variety of plants, i also overhead water the sphagnum moss portion of...
Will they grow in a heated out door pond? Are they turtle friendly? Are they turtle food?
If the answer is yes, yes, no, i would be interested I dont have many VFTs, they are too boring but i have lots of other cool plants...
I have been using equipment from work to test my water and water of others but i need to get my own TDS meter that i can carry with me when i go searching for CP... I am looking for something cheap but accurate.
Jim, please post the list, I have read that gypsicola likes alkaline media too but i have seen pics of it that disagree. moranensis is one that i have noticed to grow in a variety of soils too.
I have thought about trying iron oxide....
RCO I have never tested vermiculite but i think it is...
I grow gibba in my grow tanks under T5 lights but i have never tried any others. naturally macrorhiza grows in thick tulees and does not get much light so i wiould assume it would do ok as long as it was good light. If you want to experiment i can donate to the cause:-D
