Your soil looks very green (like algae covered). Are you positive strike killed them?

Have you had long term success with Ariocarpus in a peat soil (I notice a small 3-4year plant that looks like it is in a peat/perlite soil). I tried soil with peat as a base for Ariocarpus sp. a few years back. Summer, Spring and Fall were normal but winter I lost one plant and the other two...
Seem like the are just reselling chemicals from Aldrich or other chem companies. Nice for some who wants just a small amount. But a few things on that list could really hurt the untrained "chemist".

Maybe you city switched from chlorine to choloramines. chloramines will not "evaporate" like chlorine would. The water may still be soft but not treated the same way. About two years ago my city water switched and instantly my fish let me know with heavy breathing and brown algae.
