Thanks, Couch; that's really helpful.
My humidity has been tough to keep steady. I'm at around 70% - 80% most of the time, but it drops to 45% - 55% by the time the grow lights have been on for 8 hours. I know I'm skirting the low end of the range there, but at least it's higher the majority...
I received most of my plants about two weeks ago and transplanted them into my terrarium. Since then I've been taking photos every day or two to track their progress. The problem is: it's been 15 years since I did much of anything with CPs (or any plant), and even then I was no expert. So I'd...
I worried that might be the case. Then again, experimentation can be fun. I've been taking photos every few days and will, I'm sure, be asking questions based on them in the coming weeks. I'll try to remember to post back here in a few months or a year with a synopsis of how the 9-hour day...
Do you happen to have a link to that research? I'd love to read a little more.
I would love to use a natural photoperiod. Unfortunately, the grow light is almost blinding when on, and there are only 9 hours that I'm reliably out of the room (midnight til 9am). So I'd rather not shoot that...
This was very helpful. Using your model number, the standard size of a 55 gallon aquarium, and some Googling I was able to figure out a likely PAR value for comparison to my light. Thanks so much!
Thanks. I'll keep an eye on the Capensis and adjust if necessary.
I had some concerns about...
Thanks for the response, Bob.
They came in a little under a week ago. I got them under the grow light immediately starting at 6 hours and increasing by 45 minutes each day since then until I hit the midnight to 9 schedule.
I have some photos from a few days ago available here. They don't...
I've found a lot of advice on lighting but most of it focuses on 15-30 watt CFLs, or fluorescent tubes, used as grow lights. I have a 300 watt Bloomspect LED growlight. I don't have a meter myself, but have found independent verification that it will provide somewhere close to 300 PAR at the...
So I finally have plants in my terrarium! :)
Since My Last Post
After the second coat of poly dried on everything I tested the waterfall. It worked great, but there was a bit of splashing which resulted in a puddle or two forming on the foam. Unfortunately, it looked like it was discoloring...
Well, I never received an email with the tracking number or anything, so I contacted the company. They said they track the weather and don't ship if it looks questionable, so they were holding my order until at least Monday. So I feel better that someone with experience is watching things and...
That was my concern too. However, based on the USPS estimated delivery time, I figured where the package would be at each day. Today they should still be on their way out of the South where it's still pretty warm. By tomorrow when they make it up closer to me, our temperatures swing upwards...
I'd like to order some CPs for a new terrarium setup. However, highs here hover between 30 and 45 for the next two weeks, and who knows after that. I've already waited a week due to freezing temperatures.
Is it safe for me to order in plants now, or will the cold damage them in transit...
So what's the record for thread necromancy? ;)
It's been years since I received this terrarium as a gift. I've been through several iterations of design, built three failed waterfalls (from foam to 3D printing), tried two lighting setups, and still it's never really been used for much other...
Thanks Grey Moss.
I think I've decided to go ahead with the Bloomspect for now, after watching some Youtube reviews and reading a bit more. Then I'll run a couple strips of white LED lighting for daytime illumination.
I can't find too much on 24-hour lighting for CPs, but the posts I have...
