The VFTs I buy and the one in my other thread is just pure moss peat.

Cheers all, the seeds came from this... Seedlings are a good few weeks old, probably about 6 weeks?, lighting about 12-15 hours a day. The other plant cost £2.99 from a local DIY store, they had just got 3-4 trays in so an ideal time to pick out the best one, its in great condition

The best thing to do is catch the fly in a window with a tissue and grab its wing with a pair of needlenosed pliers, easy.

Hybrid, if you have any aquarium suppliers nearby they usually sell RO water for next to nothing. Or collect rainwater in a butt?
