    looking for N. boschiana pollen

I have a boschiana that is blooming for the first time. It has a very short spike so I assume it is a female. Flowers will open soon. Anyone have pollen of this species? I do not see this species on the pollen source list in Germany.

How to build a hanging box?

A few years back I made several of these baskets out of cedar. The wood was scrap I had from another project; in fact the cedar is sold as 6 foot long pickets for fences. Using a table saw I cut the slats of various lengths depending on how big the basket was to be. I made the slats about 1/2...

    Brocchinia reducta

Is there more than one variety being cultivated? My plants and most others I have seen pictures are bright green and have leaves that arch out making the plant appear very wide. Those I have seen photographed in the wild are more brightly colored and all leaves are very erect and held together...

Auction for the victims of the tsunami

OK Glenn, since it will be your birthday I will not outbid you. But, I will send my money to Cantley anyway. Those folks can certainly make better use of it than I can with more pots of plants.

    Humidity in greenhouse

The only thing that really helps in arid conditions is a hydrofogger. There are several models out. I have noticed also that after my greenhouse was packed full of plants (and water once a day) the humidity naturally stayed much higher without running the hydrofogger. By the way, a good...

    Stapelia

I probably am not the best for info on this group, but no one else seems to want to step up and respond. If the soil is not draining rapidly there is a problem and suggest you repot in a better mix. Add some small gravel or course sand. Make sure there are good drainage holes in the bottom of...

    Seedpod size/development

To be a little more scientific, we cannot assume the pollen was bad simply because the seed pods are not developing. It probably is a good guess. There are other reasons the seeds may not develope. The stigma could have been unreceptive, the ova could have been aborted, etc. Not all Nepenthes...

    Agricultural practices with nepenthes

Today while driving past cotton fields on my way home, I recalled the pictures Rob of Borneo Exotics posted of rajah in rows in a field. I began to wonder about the agricultural practices of such a field. Would one use a herbicide first to kill the "weeds" and seeds and then plant the Nepenthes...

    Chopped live sphagnum moss

Losfreddy, you have no info on your profile. It would help if you listed a general location, at least a country. Folks might be more interested if they knew where you were. What have you got growing in your yard? Anything you might swap some seeds or a cutting? People on this group will trade...

    Non-cp (brugmansia) for trade

Kirk, you are right. I have read that both are toxic. We have two dogs and two cats and none of these seem interested in chewing on the plant or fallen leaves. I was worried at first as one of the dogs enjoys chewing various plants but she does not even try. I have both and the flowers do look...

    Banana tree overwintering

I think you get more ice there, but we are certainly closer in temps to you than Houston. At 3200 feet, I think our elevation is higher. I cut the trees down and mulched heavily. We have already had two partial days of snow and hard freezing temperatures for the next several nights. We shall see...

    Stapelia

Some Stapelia definitely cannot take full sun. They turn red and then black before they perish. During the hottest part of the year I keep mine where they only get direct sun until noon, then they are somewhat shaded but still bright light. I water about once a week, but the soil is made up...

    Non-cp (brugmansia) for trade

No, it is a bush/tree depending on where it is grown. You probably need an ivy or philodendron. Sweet potatoes in a container of water will also make a nice vine indoors. Of course the best vines are Nepenthes!
