Anybody up on their shorebird IDs?

i don't know if it was a bluebird box or meant for something more aquatic... it was standing in the middle of a pond. this guy just kind of flew in and perched there for 10 minutes or so, i expect he hunts in the pond... herons eat frogs and pond fish, right? this place was riddled with them...

Anybody up on their shorebird IDs?

Hello :) Not plant-related, sadly.... my carnivores are actually very content for once (!)... but i know a bunch of you all are into wildlife so I was wondering if anyone knew what this fella was: sorry about the quality, its ridiculously zoomed in, i could barely see the bird from where i...

    where you found them

My only real "lost pet" was never found again... which wouldn't be that weird except for the fact that it was a fish. I had bought two oto cats to clean up the algae in my 10-gal tank, and about a week later I noticed that I was only seeing one of them. I searched all over the floor, the sides...

Need help with buying a graphing calculator

true enough, but for those of us who loathe math and use it as a means to an end only, lord how we love those functions ;) to be fair, i DID learn how to do derivatives by hand (my prof's made every test have a calculator-free section), and i've utterly forgotten how to take them already. it...

Need help with buying a graphing calculator

I had a similar experience to xvart's in high school with my first graphing calculator, also a Casio... I eventually caved and got a TI-83, and later a TI-89 in college. Basically, TI owns most school's souls, for better or worse... if you ever have a problem with a Casio in class, the...

thinking of getting a pet rat

Well, everybody's limit of pet care is different, but I try to follow one general rule myself: never take any living thing into your care if you cannot provide for it in every sense for the ENTIRE duration of its life. That means an investment of time (attention, maintenance) AND money (food...

thinking of getting a pet rat

*technically* guinea pigs are cavies, closer to rabbits than rats ;) (/annoying PC-ness... sorry, it's reflexive!!! :)) i really like rats actually, pet rats are NOT filthy disgusting rodents, vft_guy :P they've been domesticated for quite some time... the modern pet rat is VERY far removed...

New camera, Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS

good lord, Canon's are the furthest thing from garbage!! i use a Canon PowerShot S2 IS, it also came with the ridiculous 10-picture memory card... which is a joke with this beast. i bought a 2 gig SD memory card and the thing holds like 700 pictures on the highest quality setting...

Anybody hear about this crazy guy?

the information i've read says that nobody has broken the sound barrier in free-fall before, although other extremely high altitude jumps have been made (just not this high)... the data gathered will definitely be interesting, i just think the guy is certifiable for even trying!! one article i...

Anybody hear about this crazy guy?

Michael Fournier- Le Grand Saut ("The Great Leap") http://www.legrandsaut.org/index.php?Message=main&lang=eng (english translation but cursory french might help you ;) probably on google as well) He was supposed to jump today but I guess they moved it to tomorrow... anybody else think this guy...

    Which two Nepenthes are better?

Hamata wins for me... it's got the furrier, wilder look, and i'm partial to speckling :) Edwardsiana is more elegant looking though, my taste might change with my mood!

    Father/daughter Talk

By that logic, no politician should ever hold office... clearly, Hillary surrounds herself with saints. And I'm none too keen on having Bush Lite in office for another 4 years either. I have spiritual leaders who are friends as well, and you know what? I don't agree with everything they say...
