My N.ventricosa started producing smaller leaves about a year ago. Since then, 4 things have happened:
1. The leaves continued to get smaller and smaller. They're only a couple of inches in length now.
2. It started flowering (twice in the last 12 months).
3. A rapidly growing basal...
Hi,
I bought a few unidentified carnivorous objects (UCOs) over the winter, and now they have enough growth to make a reasonable attempt at identification. Here is the first one:
To my untrained eye, it appears to be an S.rubra ssp. rubra. It has red flowers and is pushing out a lot of...
My Nepenthes are on a metro shelf in front of a large NE facing window. I'm using a pair of 32w daylight T8's with a timer set for 16 hour photoperiods, with the bulbs about 6" away from the soil surface. I also hung a sheet of reflective material on the side of the shelf opposite the window...
My Nepenthes are under a pair of 32w daylight T8's at about the same distance. I didn't get much in the way of pitchers with 12 and 14 hour photoperiods, but they're doing very well with 16 hours of light per day.
Hi,
My N.rafflesiana (and to a lesser extent my N.coccinea) have unhealthy-looking red spots on their leaves. They are being grown about 6" away from a pair of 32w daylight T8's next to a bunch of highland Nepenthes with leaves that have healthy-looking tans. The lights are on 16 hours a day...
I've heard stories of people finding 6" Nepenthes in hanging baskets at Home Depot and Lowe's, but I've never seen them personally. I picked up a small N. coccinea at Lowes a couple of years ago, and an N. ventrata at Home Depot a few weeks ago.
Thanks for the compliments. I'm not sure which form it is, it was sold to me as just "n. spectabilis".
This shot was taken with a Canon 20D with a Canon 100mm macro lens on a tripod with a remote shutter release. Mirror lockup and manual focus were used. No special lighting, just the grow...
Hello all,
Just wanted to share a picture of my N. spectabilis' new pitcher. Out of my (admittedly small) collection of Nepenthes, I think this one produces the most beautiful pitchers.
I bought a cobra plant from Lowe's a couple of years ago and it has been doing great. I went to repot it yesterday, and when I pulled the root ball out of its 6" pot, I noticed the roots and runners had taken up the entire pot space! They had taken several laps around the bottom of the pot and...
Thanks for all of the info. My Nepenthes are grown in a plant rack under artificial lights. Currently, the timer is set to "winter" mode, so they get 12 hours of light a day. They'll get 14 in the spring and 16 in the summer. I was expecting fewer (if any) pitchers with the lower light...
Hi,
I have two Nepenthes questions:
1. Since my N.ventricosa produced a basal shoot and flowered a few months ago, the main part of the plant doesn't seem to be producing pitchers anymore. The main vine is still producing plenty of leaves, but they're getting smaller and smaller (it used to...
