    Cephalotus consolidated

I haven't been on here for a long time but I retained most of my Cephs and still grow other plants in a bog outside. I would like to share a long-term observation regarding growing cephs: I have noticed that mixes that have APS or Turface (no matter how thoroughly you wash it) in them do not do...

    Sarracenia pitcher lid drying

Hi there, A few Sarrs in my recirculating mini bog had this issue for a while. The tip of the lid begins drying. The plants push out new pitchers regularly and seem to be doing fine overall. Plans were inoculated with beneficial mites and some time after that when the issue persisted were...

Has anyone found a good "Coarse" silica sand?

Some people just place the ping onto wet mix. I used to make a little mound with a cavity on the top and place the plants rhizome in that cavity. I only did it because some pings tend to "lift" themselves with the leaves out of the soil and sitting on top of something mediated that to a degree.

Has anyone found a good "Coarse" silica sand?

Yeah it should be perfectly safe. I had some elaborate mixes similar to what you are describing and as long as you wash everything thoroughly it can sit in water for weeks on end and never develop any slime or moss. And if you start having issue just cover the top layer with some sand and forget...

Has anyone found a good "Coarse" silica sand?

APS or APM contains acrilite and zeolite. And if I remember correctly Turface is just a brand name for one of them (i think acrilite?) It will work fine. The only potential mentioned by members here and there is the leaching of aluminum from substrate in the acidic environment of peat. I have...

Has anyone found a good "Coarse" silica sand?

wash it with tap water until the water runs clear and leave soaking overnight in distilled water. It will leach out more minerals. Rinse once more after that with distilled water and you are good to go. I use it for pings and cephs. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Has anyone found a good "Coarse" silica sand?

You could use Aquatic Planting Soil (Turface). Just soak it thoroughly to leach stuff out. Walmart supposedly sells them im 20lb bags. Also it is often available in local nurseries...

Self watering recirculating pot for outside

Although this would be perfect, it is definitely against the rules. These ******** from condo association not only have a limit on the pots (2!!!!) that we may have outside but also on what can and can not be kept outside, and this is definitely not going to fly well with them. I have added a...

    Cephalotus consolidated

I was thinking about it recently as well. It is not the outside conditions that I am worried about it's the human curiosity that I am sure will affect the plants adversely. I do have a recently rooted pitcher I could try and plant in the bog. In my experience the younger ceph growth adapts...

Self watering recirculating pot for outside

Although your ideas would definitely work and I did consider them seriously!!!, I am leaning towards some kind of a plastic enclosure with holes large enough for the insects to pass through and provide air circulation but small enough for the sticks and fingers not to.

Interesting. Are the aquarium gravel particles you mention almost oval in shape, really smooth? The stuff I have is literally crushed quartz :)
