Thank you all for the suggestions. I think I will keep 10-20% peat just for some moisture retention, but I will definitely try a higher mineral-based mix now.
Merci pour ton suggestion, jeff 2! Je parle Français aussi si tu veux parler de plantes.
I grow my Mexican pinguicula as houseplants. Usually, they do really well and thrive under my conditions. However, this year I have had a few losses to browning heart disease. My soil mix is peat/silica sand/dolomitic lime added. The ratio of peat/sand is ~40/60 with 1/2 tbsp of dolomitic lime...
I have used neem oil with success. I mix 5mL of pure neem oil with 1-2mL of soap, and 1L of water. The dew on the plants goes away for a bit, but I have not had any plants die when using this spray. You have to apply it multiple times too, as neem does not get rid of the pests instantly. If you...
So, what do I do once I am ready to sow? Do I just dump the seeds and the liquid onto the media? Is there a good method for removing such tiny seeds from the solution?
I am using RO water now, but I had to use tap water for a brief time. If the dryness is caused by mineral buildup, will flushing the pots outside with several top-waterings of RO water get rid of the minerals?
The older plants handle it fine, but some of the tiniest of seedlings seem to dry out as a result. I am going to try top watering now that I have an RO unit. I wonder if it could be some sort of mineral buildup or something like that. The odd thing is, it's not on every pot, only on some that...
I am using the tray method on many of my sundew pots now, but the soil keeps drying. All of the pots have 3+ drainholes and I keep them in 1+ inches of water most of the time. The soil is moist directly underneath any dryness, it is only 1mm or less on the very top that dries out. Would getting...
Thanks for the input everyone! Hopefully it will help me obtain this stubborn form on D. burmannii among others.
Thanks for offering, I will let you know if I run into trouble.
I have been having trouble getting a form of Drosera burmannii to germinate. I was told to use gibberellic acid on some seeds. I was told to make solution in this amount (100mg of GA with 400mL of H2O). Does that sound good? Does anyone have experience in germinating seed with GA? I would like...
Thanks for all of the help, Av8tor1! I went with the SpectraPure 90 GPD unit. Now all I need is a faucet adapter. Are there any particular brands or things I should look out for on those? It comes with a garden hose adapter, which is fine for now, but I would prefer to be able to hook it up to...
Okay, so I found a Spectrapure 3-stage RO unit that sounds like it will do the job. How does this look to everyone? http://spectrapure.com/RO-RODI/RO-SYSTEMS/MaxPureMPRO-90-GPD-RO-System
Do I really need the extra stages that come with a RODI system?
