Sorry I've been away at college and got back a few weeks ago. I haven't tried it with any other plants yet! The reason I tried it with the S. alata was because I repotted a large pot of them several years ago and didn't have room for some of the extras, and I didn't have any other pots to put...
Actually, the ones I sent everyone were grown in 50:50 peat:perlite mix, the ones growing in water have shorter roots but they are much thicker. What's interesting is I've used tap water, there is algae growing in the water, and I only change the water ONCE a year and yet they are producing...
Awesome, glad you received them and it looks like they made the travel well :) I'll post some pictures in this thread tomorrow of the ones I have growing as aquatics. I decided to try an experiment one year, I took several and put them in a plastic container and filled it with water. Even in...
Hello all, I received about 4-5 years ago some S. alata 'Covington, LA' plants and they have grown quite well for me. Interestingly enough, several years ago I had some spare plants and put them in a bucket of water and they amazingly have been living for 2 years in a bucket of just tap water...
Here are a few pictures of my VFT starting to take off. They did quite well this year considering the wet winter we had.
Bigmouth VFT in 12" pot.
Here is last year after repotting and division.
Now here is the same pot 1 year later.
Here is my pot of typical VFT, growth seen over 1 year...
I think the OP was responding to my comment that I tried to get pics of D. burmannii in flower but I missed it, but then he said congrats on getting D. intermedia cuba in flower. Burmannii is a tough one to catch, hopefully one of these days I'll catch an open flower!!
Btw, how is that vft I...
Me too, it's getting more and more impressive as it's producing bigger and larger pitchers! Supposedly these pitchers can grow over 2 feet tall on a fully mature plant, mine are only about 8" or so high so it has a lot more growing to do it would seem! Can't wait to see what it will look like...
Well as my S. x 'purple people eater' is growing rapidly larger and producing bigger pitchers, it is beginning to show its separation from other pitcher plants that I've seen and why it will be a beautiful plant once it fully matures. Here are some pictures showing the progress and changes...
Got just a few pics of my sundews in flower, tried to catch D. burmannii with an open flower but they open and close so fast I couldn't catch it.
D. spatulata Fraser Island
Closer pic, notice the pollen grains!
D. intermedia 'Cuba'
Thanks Ozzy we appreciate your work!
Taliesin-DS, I believe he potted some in the wild/natural habitats, to reestablish the population in areas where they are almost gone, but I'm not 100% sure.
