I use well water and only the drosera have shown any ill effects. Another trick i have heard if but havent tried is to collect the water from your a/c or central air. Central air especially put out gallons of apparently clean water a day.

Dont toss it. It may have gone into dormancy. The leaves die back leaving what looks like a little onion. When they do this they are prone to rot so let the soil dry out until it starts to show bew growth which may be a month or two.
Rig up some coolers. I think i'd put some ice water in the bottom, keeping the plants up above the water. Do that during the day and then maybe at night when it cools put them under some lights.
Mine do fine outside. They will get sunburned though so i keep them in a mostly shaded spot. I have a few different kinds of epiphytic cacti and dragon fruit cacti. The hardier standard cacti get full sun.
