PROBLEM SOLVED!!
I replaced one of my light bulbs and now the plant is growing much better! It appears that one of my 10000 hour compact fluorescents changed its color range to a more yellow hue after only 2500 hours. The change back to 5000K seems to have done the trick.
I am in glee over the recovery of my fast frozen nep. Some of you may remember that the postman left it out in the cold in 15 degree weather. The middle photo is after 1 month. The last two are from 14APR04. It has even claimed two victims already.

My VFT recently started growing very long and thin petioles. The petioles develop very quickly and have large traps on them. Is this a cause of poor lighting? I think I may have a bad bulb (the color is 'off' on one of the bulbs). I'll try to post a pic as soon as I can.

The water I use is strictly D.I. (deionized). It is the cleanest water you can get. However, I do have slime mold (algae) in all of my pots. Sphagnum moss is also starting to grow in small patches. I have also used Cleary's 336 as a fungicide in an adjacent pot. I have confirmed the...
The plants appear to be free of parasites. The newly developing leaves seem a little weird. The tips of all the new growth are slightly curled and narrower than the rest of the leaf. On the other leaves when this was seen, the tips turned black. Are there any other causes of this annoying black...
Noah,
I am using a 20 gallon terrarium with a Tropic Aire humidity pump. It is covered with two panes of glass and is lit with 2 Panasonic EFA23E50S 23 watt compact fluorescents at 1400 lumens touching the glass lid on swing-arm lamps. The lights are 5000K and the tank is covered on three sides...
I have been growing a D. capensis with much success since mid-January. Now, however, I seem to have a problem. The tips of the leaves stop maturing and turn brown. It is now affecting 2 of 3 plants. I keep the terrarium at or around 95-100% humidity at all times. Light is more than ample. Any clues?
I have recently repotted my VFT and some of the new traps are turning black before they reach maturity. Is this a fungal attack? How does one apply alcohol to the fungus? Q-tip? It is also developing what I think is a flower stalk (it looks like a fist).
In mid-January, I received my first Nepenthes in the mail. Unfortunately, it was 15 degrees outside and the postman left it on the porch even though it was marked perishable. These photos show the progress from Jan. 18 through Mar. 14. There are a total of FIVE new growth points! Does this...
I have the exact same situation. My D. capensis "alba" seedlings have some green algae. I actually posted on this in the Drosera forum. After doing some research, I found that this algae is called "slime mold". It is actually algae and NOT a mold. It is collecting into little puddles in my pots...
I agree as to the ad being genius. I have never heard more viewpoints over a commercial before. This campaign will get Quiznos on the map as a household name. "Quiznos? Oh yeah, the ones with the floating rats."
