Certainly the ice-cold running water. Perhaps it doesn't have to be running but it's closest to their natural environment and that's what I've been trying to achieve.
I'll post some more pictures when they're a bit bigger, hopefully with some alpine utric flowers!
Hey all,
There was some interest earlier this year in my experience growing D. Arcturi. I live in a warm city with 30*c summer days but successfully grow both mature plants and seedlings of alpine sundew, including Arcturi.
For my mature plants, this is their third season. The seedlings are...
It's growing season here again and everything is waking up. My Arcturi are coming back strong for their third season, however my germination test ended up being a complete failure due to a bird digging up some moss in my bog and clogging the outlet - Shortly after it rained and the bog flooded...
hahah, oh my.
hcarlton, you posted a picture a while back of a Ventrata, the peristome being the obvious thing there in that it is very Ventricosa. Graciliflora certainly looks like a good candidate for a cross.
One thing that popped into my head this morning was, perhaps, if this plant I...
No doubt it's some kind of Ventrata and thanks for the pictures :) The plant is just over 18" tall and some more pitchers are coming out now but it's lacking the Vent. colouring & bulbous butt I'd expect from a direct cross. Would a Ventrata x Graciliflora be more likely than, say, Ventrata x...
Hi all,
Re. the attached picture, can anyone spot the variant/lineage? It's been driving me insane trying to figure it out, and what's worse in the month that I've had it in the greenhouse, it's gone from almost entirely green to having the yellowing peristome, red wings & veins and spotted...
Hey guys, hoping some experiences Nepenthes growers can settle something for us!
As everyone knows, lower internode buds grow into plants with normal, lower pitchers. But what we're not sure of are the upper internode buds. We've heard some people say they'll only ever grow upper pitchers, so...
Thanks for the happy birthdays! :)
I've just been fluffing around in my alpine bog and decided it was about time to remove the Arcturi seed pods. I keep it very sheltered so that the wind and rain can't damage the plants, only giving it a light shower occasionally to wash away old bugs/dirt on...
Hey all; Megan's friend here.
I grew up on and around Mt Ruapehu, home of many alpine species of Arcturi, Spatulata, some Binata and illegally introduced Pinguicula. I'm currently in the process of writing up some information on the true environment these plants grow in, as it's something I've...
