Drosera regia with the tip of the leaves black

The plant seems to have lack of light. Very green. Mine is always much more red even in dormancy. Warm and too little light will result in hunger. But it is a guess I live not in a tropical climate. Summer in South Africa means long days, quite hot and relative strong sunlight. Drosera regia...

    *sigh* ceph death :(

I keep mine always damp. For more than a year in a plastic pot standing in 1-2 cm of water did not harm one of my plants. During spring and summer outside in rain and sunshine (from 8-14 o clock) After the first light frost the go into my studio with temperatures between -1 C° and +15 at a...

    How I Propagate Cephalotus

This method I found in cpuk works foolproof. http://www.cpukforum.com/forum/index.php?/topic/56771-new-cephalotus-cuttings-pullings-propagation-and-potting/ Even very small pitchers 3 mm high took root in a plastic box under artificial lighting. I used a complete closed box and of course...

    Wind Desiccation

Sarracenia is very hard but 24 hours dry wind for many days seems to me a bit harsh. This is probably bad for all living plants. Much less time and not direct on the plant should be enough to avoid mold.

    Cephalotus consolidated

My oldest Ceph had two new traps when I first pictured it in Mai 2014. this one is from June the first picture from May is not that impressive. https://forum.carnivoren.org/uploads/monthly_06_2014/post-2166-0-96537400-1403372943.jpg I repotted it in December of the same year in another one of...

Going all-out to germinate some Drosophyllum

My seeds germinate much better if grinded with some sandpaper. Mine are exceptionally long lived and easy growing while having always some water in the tray. In the frost free season they are outside in our German weather. Flower up to 5 times a year and set plenty seeds. They started in...

    Ceph pitcher lifespan?

With my Cephalotus I had lifespan from a few months up to more than two years. Usually it is about a year for an adult pitcher which is not overgrown by new ones. The oldest ones were fed twice. The last time half a year before it died.

    Is my cephalotus dying??? :-(

My Cephalotus are placed in the shade in early spring End of April or earlier. After 4 weeks they go to a place which has sun from the morning until 1 pm In case we have frost in the night, they come in to the cellar till morning. They probably don’t mind light frost too much, but I have dwarf...

    Is my cephalotus dying??? :-(

To put it in easy words "pitchers and leafs don’t live forever". It looks healthy to me too. I had pitchers which lived for more than two years and others lived only a few month. Cant make out why, but the plant gets bigger and bigger. Another one lost three big pitchers within two weeks...

    Drosophyllum Killer Babies

Both are myths the watering regime and of course only one plant per pot, as my plants and Mike Wang’s show. It is really an easy plant treated as I do. Are they usually immune to aphids? I have never seen one alive on them. The time in winter might be a problem because I did not feed them and...

    Drosophyllum Killer Babies

I think this is a myth. They probably would have even different growth in different pots. These are now two years in the same pot. http://www.terraforums.com/forums/sundews-drosera-byblis-drosophyllum/140160-drosophyllum-company-sandy-pine-forest-soil.html I cant make out now which one was...

    Cephalotus cube display piece

It is a pity that you live so far away. I need something like this light setup for my ceramic landscapes. Humidity might be a problem too with my setup. It stays easily in one inch of water all the time. No problem on my window sill with the radiator underneath in the winter for my Drosera. It...

Drosophyllum with company in sandy pine forest soil

I think, do keep them always wet and let them have some company from other species will do the trick. I really did not fuzz about them. This spring/summer was very rainy and mostly cold in the beginning and dry and really hot in the end. They just flowered again after every cold spell so I had...
